Toll in Hyderabad hospital fire rises to three
HYDERABAD: A nurse succumbed to her injuries Thursday, taking the death toll in Tuesday's fire mishap at a private hospital here to three.
Police said Rispa, a nurse from Kerala, had fainted after inhaling carbon monoxide emanating from the fire at Park Hospital in Somajiguda area in the city. Though she was rescued by fire fighting personnel from the second floor, her lungs were affected and she slipped into coma.
She was admitted to another hospital where she died Thursday.
Her colleague Usha Rani, who had sustained serious injuries after she jumped from the second floor of the hospital to escape the fire, died Wednesday.
The fire had killed one person and injured 40 others Tuesday. The five-storeyed building was gutted in the mishap, apparently caused by an electrical short circuit.
A 75-year-old patient, who was rescued from the intensive care unit of the hospital, died at a hospital Tuesday evening.
Six others injured, including another nurse, are under going treatment at Yashoda Hospital.
Meanwhile, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has sealed the unauthorised fifth floor of Park hospital. The building owner and occupants have been barred from using the fifth floor, which along with other illegally-built portions will be demolished by the authorities.
The police have already booked the hospital management for negligence, leading to deaths and injuries.
