NEW DELHI: Even as the high command made it clear that Congress leaders in Andhra Pradesh should withdraw themselves from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and warned that “any violation of party discipline will be seriously dealt with,” a delegation of Congress MPs and MLAs from the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions is meeting senior leaders here on Monday to press for the “continuation of a united Andhra Pradesh at any cost.”
Informed sources said the delegation, after a formal meeting at the residence of Eluru MP K. Sambasiva Rao, was planning to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and senior leaders Pranab Mukherjee, A.K. Antony, P. Chidambaram, M. Veerappa Moily and Ahmed Patel.
These MPs and MLAs are firm that the Centre, before finalising the terms of reference for the proposed judicial committee on Telangana, should consider their views and the terms of reference of the Rosaiah Committee on Telangana, set up by the then Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.
Interestingly, Mr. Moily, who is also general secretary in charge of Congress affairs in Andhra Pradesh, in a carefully worded statement, nowhere mentioned to which JAC (for Telangana or United Andhra) he was referring to and the framework of the “committee.”
